Michael Assis is a Brazilian and American scientist, artist, and educator, having explored origami for over 30 years. As a scientist he has investigated the mathematics and physics of origami, with applications to tuneable origami metamaterials. As an artist he has created many unique origami designs, representational models as well as geometric models, and exhibited and taught them at various international origami conferences. As an educator, he has spoken about origami at many outreach events, including as a co-organiser of Maths Craft Australia, as well as at conferences on mathematics education and Indigenous mathematics education. Michael is the current president of Melbourne Origami Group, inc and collaborates with other Australian artists and organisations to help promote origami in Australia.
